Creative Workshops in Southern Maine

The slowing down of the colder months can sometimes feel heavy with inertia and boredom. Sometimes you need a spark of creativity, a reawakened sense of enthusiasm, a reminder of the joi de vivre that’s been hibernating along with you. The perfect solution? Trying something new. Working with your hands. Seeing results from something you’ve made yourself. If you’re in southern or central Maine, try one of these workshops: you might discover a passion you never knew you had. And even if you don’t, you’ll enjoy the experience of trying something new and stretching your creativity.

Pottery: Campfire Studios in Westbrook has workshops that are perfect for a date or bringing a friend. Plus you’ll have beautiful handmade pottery to bring home after the experience!

Calligraphy: The hand lettering workshops offered by Oh Joy Calligraphy include supplies, snacks and/or drinks, and a fabulous location.

Painting: Try a tiny painting workshop at Still Life Studio in Portland, or paint a canvas while enjoying food and drink at Muse Paint Bar (also Portland) or at Painting with a Twist in Saco.

Sewing: Make an item of clothing or get help with your own project at Atelier Stitch in Portland or try a new project at Ocean & D in South Portland.

Cooking: There’s always cooking classes available at Stonewall Kitchen in York, or try a specialized class at Stone Turtle in Lyman.

Gardening/Plants: Yes, you can learn about herbs and gardening even during the winter at workshops provided by Wild Carrot Herbs in Portland or Wolfe’s Neck Farm in Freeport. Also, check out Mainely Succulents on Instagram or Facebook for upcoming workshop events!

Photography and Food Styling: No upcoming workshops listed yet, but I’d love to get in on one of these beautiful events by Mint & Thistle in Monmouth!

Note: not all of these places have workshops available for the near future, but check their websites to see when they offer new workshops in the new year!
